Hey Everyone

So I’m writing to tell you about how my interview went…and I’m glad to say, it was better than I thought it would be!

Once I got there my nerves subsided…and I saw some other Wellesley ladies that I know and we were all like “Ahh! This is nerve-racking!”…but we were all in the same boat so that was comforting.

We did our teaching segments first. My lesson was on subject/verb agreement for both singular and plural sentences in the 3rd person. So basically I taught how you would combine “Sandra” with “cooks” because both are singular. Also, you would combine “the players” with “jump” and because they are both plural, the sentence is in agreement and thus grammatically correct. It went alright .. and I was a bit under the 5 minute limit …and I’m not sure if that’s good or bad!

There were 8 of us there, all Wellesley people, and 2 interviewers. We did some group activities …like, you’re a teacher and your faced with this problem. Why did this fail? What contributed to the failure? How can you make sure this failure won’t happen again? Scenarios I guess. I took the Spanish exam to see if I was qualified for bilingual.. more paper work, etc.

All that ended at 1230, and then I came back at 215 for my personal interview. Looking back this was probably the hardest part … but I wasn’t anticipating it to to be as such. There were a few hard questions like “Teachers must motivate their students, principals, etc. Explain one time in which you motivated someone. How did you do it? How did this person respond?” It’s not that the question in and of itself was hard, its just I didn’t have much time to think over my life to a time when I motivated someone. There were a few bullets like that .. and I think I dodged them to the best of my ability.

Well .. that’s basically it. I was glad when it was all over, and thankfully it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be as it was happening.

To everyone who helped me out in the process – thank you! References, recommendation writers, supporters … all of your help really meant a lot to me

hey everyone

well, the first thing I wanted to post was that swallowing my big horse pills is becoming much easier, thanks to some suggestions from sister Cher the Bear. danke, hermana!

Also, I heard today that I was offered an interview for Teach For America. This isn't that big of a deal ... I think a lot of people get interviews (I don't know the percentages). So on Tuesday November 29th I will be busy from 9am until maybe 6 with a day full of interviewing. I have to prepare a 5 minute sample class lesson along with a group interview, personal interview, discussion of readings that they sent us, and some problem solving something or other.

So ... im excited! I need to buy some presentable comfortable clothing for that day ... because I DEFINITELY do not have anything that comes close to presentable in my current wardrobe. Most of my pants have holes and my shirts are made of cotton...haha. so yes, shopping will be an adventure.

Alright.

Hope you all are doing well!
