Hey everyone
I'm not even sure who reads this anymore...I post so seldom.
Well, today I have news! I jsut got back from 4 hours of training at a café nearby ... called 71 Irving Place. It was pretty stressful - remembering to steam this and how many shots go where ... for here or to go ... iced or hot. I didn't make any awful mistakes, but I certainly made a few. They basically put me on the bar (making iced coffe, iced tea, hot coffee, hot tea, espresso and froofy espresso drinks) and I'm starting to get that down. I still need to learn (like, really learn) how to do the register, how to deal with the coffee (they sell by the lb and 1/2lb etc.), and how to make all of the sandwiches. Basically, there is a lot to do!
My coworkers were all in an odd mood. Its always hard when its the first day and you aren't really sure how to react to people's off the cuff statements. My first hour there I was with three women and one was really nice, the other two were more quiet. For the next three hours there were two guys and a girl, and all they were doing was making fun of each other. For instance - at one point the two guys kept calling the third girl hippy and fat (and she is probably 10 lbs lighter than i am) so I was just standing there like uuuuuuuuuh.
The bad thing about it : the pay is 7.50 an hour. =( SO BAD. So I think I am going to stay with the job until I find something better - and I will certainly be looking! I would love something more challenging mentally ... and certainly more money giving,. I'll keep you posted!
Deb
